When waterproofing underground, the effort required to resist water pressure is often underestimated. Bluey looks to International Standards, as well as our decades of experience in this area, to help our partners select the right product for their application. Tunnel Lining
Tunnel Liners are specified where there is a need for ‘dryness’ in a tunnel. The main tunnel sealing and drainage systems are known as sheet membrane linings.

These systems offer the most robust and watertight protection for a tunnel structural lining. The liner creates an impermeable water barrier between the concrete lining and the surrounding strata. These liners are internationally recognised and conform to global standards as the most reliable method of tunnel waterproofing.

Tunnelling projects are always complex because of a range of environmental and structural factors. In these situations, even one oversight can compromise the entire project. With this in mind, it is important to select the right liner to prevent water inflow and provide sound asset protection.

Waterstopping
The compartmentalisation of a waterproofed structure limits the spread of leaks if a membrane is damaged during its service life. Bluey Engineers work to International Standards for spacing, looping and continuity of waterstop to provide long-term assurance and minimise water damage and safety risks for our partners.

Cross Passage Waterproofing
Waterproofing TBM cross passages is no easy feat. Complex terminations, three-way curvature compartmentalisations, excessive water pressure and weak ground are just some of the complications that often play a role. To ensure the delivery of successful projects, Bluey assists in the design, procurement, project management and installation of membrane.

The primary challenge for cross passage waterproofing is the connection to the TBM segments at each end. The segments are cut in a complex and unpredictable arrangement which requires a high level of skill and experience to seal against. The termination of the membrane liner must connect and seal to the TBM gasket system either directly or indirectly which requires a combination of design, care and skill to effectively complete.

We’ve now successfully sealed more than 500 TBM cross passages across many significant infrastructure projects, including Auckland’s Waterview Tunnel, the Brisbane Airport Link and Metro Rail Projects, amongst others.

Joint Sealing
Underground sealing systems must be designed to seal various types of concrete elements and structures, including both horizontal and vertical construction joints.

BluSeal Leakmaster is a unique sealing compound which can be used to form a bonded seal for in-situ concrete joints. For use in both horizontal and vertical construction joints, Leakmaster can be utilised in tunnels, basement construction, water treatment plants, retaining walls and on shotcrete joints.
